ABOUT US

Good Guys Organization was founded in 2012 by Laverne Nixon with a simple but powerful vision: to uplift and empower the Memphis community. Over the years, what started as a small initiative to support those in need has blossomed into a full-scale nonprofit organization, committed to providing resources, opportunities, and hope to those who need it most.

Our journey began in the fall of 2012 with our first event: an annual coat drive to help individuals and families prepare for the cold winter months. The response was overwhelming, and we quickly realized the power of community support in addressing everyday challenges. This first event set the tone for the years to come, igniting a passion in our founder and volunteers to do even more.

By 2016, Good Guys expanded its mission, launching our homeless feeding program at the Memphis Union Mission Shelter. Each month, we gather volunteers and donors to provide hot meals, essential supplies, and companionship to individuals experiencing homelessness. This initiative has since become a staple in our organization, offering both nourishment and hope to those navigating some of life’s most difficult challenges. In addition to our feeding program, we also partner with local women’s shelters to mentor residents, assist with GED preparation, and provide the support needed to help women rebuild their lives.

As our mission grew, so did our programs. We recognized the importance of education and community engagement, which led us to host back-to-school drives filled with backpacks, school supplies, and other necessities for children in need. Every year, we rally together with organizations, schools, and local businesses to ensure that students start the school year ready to succeed. Our back-to-school events have continued to expand, partnering with major organizations like Amazon, Walmart, the Mid-South Food Bank, Memphis Truth Sports, Memphis Shelby County Schools, Life-Changing Credit Repair, Saving Lost Kids, and both the Memphis Fire and Police Departments. These partnerships have enabled us to provide a wide range of services and support to thousands of families in the Memphis area.

At Good Guys, we believe that community is everything, which is why we place a strong emphasis on community engagement. We host regular events that bring people together—whether it’s through service projects, educational workshops, or celebrations of local achievements. Our goal is to create lasting relationships and a sense of belonging, empowering every person we work with to become an active part of making Memphis a better place.

Under the leadership of our founder and CEO, Laverne Nixon, Good Guys continues to make an impact in the lives of countless individuals across Memphis. Laverne’s unwavering dedication to service, community, and faith drives the organization’s work and inspires others to get involved. Through her vision, Good Guys has grown into more than just a nonprofit; it has become a movement of kindness, compassion, and hope.

As we continue to grow, our focus remains clear: to be the “good guys” in a world that often needs more light. With the support of volunteers, partners, and donors, we’re able to provide essential services to those in need, foster a sense of community, and give individuals the tools they need to succeed. We’re committed to making a difference one person at a time, and we believe that together, we can create a brighter future for everyone.
